We were proud to supply hollowed oak beams and oak beam casings for the new pavilion at Royal Blackheath Golf Club, one of the oldest golf clubs in the world.
The project demanded a large, column-free open span, which called for a structural steel frame. However, the club wanted the building to reflect the traditional character of its historic surroundings with a full oak finish.
To achieve this perfect combination of modern engineering and classic aesthetics, we manufactured and supplied over 100 individual oak sections, including:
Hollowed oak beams (U-shaped) to fully encase steel beams
Oak column wraps
Solid oak sections
All pieces were precision-made from high-quality air-dried oak to exact measurements, ensuring a perfect fit over the steel framework. The hollowed oak beams allowed the steel structure to be completely concealed, creating a seamless and authentic traditional oak appearance throughout the pavilion.
Once installed, the oak beams transformed the space. The steel frame provides excellent strength and wide open areas, while the hollowed oak beams deliver the warmth, beauty, and heritage look of a classic timber-framed building.
This project is an excellent example of how hollowed oak beams offer a practical and cost-effective solution for covering structural steel while maintaining a premium traditional oak finish. The result is a versatile, light-filled pavilion that blends beautifully with its prestigious golf club setting.
